For me one of the most challenging aspect of my work is to find solutions that are both fit for purpose and flexible enough to cope with a range of applications. Clients want to address a specific a issue or issues but also have a wish-list of functionality that would be a nice to have.
Another challenge is defining solutions with requirements that seem mutually exclusive. Such as “A rich user experience with the latest all singing all dancing wiz-bang features but it must also support all mobile browsers (lightweight) and it must be secure”.
When it comes to delivering web based solutions Zeus have an amazing product called the Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager or ZXTM.
I have had the pleasure of using the ZXTM to deliver some very high profile and innovative web based solutions. The strength of the product is its flexibility and configurability. Zeus have an excellent web site with a really excellent knowledge base. One problem that I have encountered is trying to size solutions. This is due to the versatility of the solution, it is impossible to get get a A+B=C formula because it is entirely dependant on the bespoke nature of the solution, how any given set of hardware OR Virtual Machine will perform.
I am going to document the metric that we see in real world deployments with the intention of helping you make informed decisions in planning your deployment.
You can get evaluations of Zeus products here and ZXTM specific download Desktop and Full Version. Tell them I sent you
I am working on ZXTM 101 and also some field based metric post to follow shortly.
